We may be half way through June, but there is still plenty of summer fun going on in Eureka Springs.
A couple of new activities to enjoy while you are here, the Bart Rocket Magic Show takes place at 3:00 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon in the Grand Ballroom at the Basin Park Hotel. The show is about an hour in length and tickets can be reserved by calling the Basin Park Hotel.
Portions of Eureka Underground will be opened to the public soon. Take a guided, two hour tour of sights “below the streets” in downtown Eureka Springs. Maiden voyage will be July 4th.
Free music in the park continues. Thanks to help from the Downtown Network, there is now entertainment 7 days a week. Grab a bench and enjoy live entertainment from local and regional artists.
Opera in the Ozarks opens its 2009 season Friday June 19 at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony. Affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), Opera in the Ozarks has earned the reputation of being a prominent training program for all singers interested in pursuing a career in opera. With performances through July 17, this program offers first rate opera entertainment.
June 19th also welcomes the 11th Annual Turpentine Creek Pow Wow. Held on the grounds of Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, the Pow Wow features a Grand Entry, traditional, Native American dance and costume, vendors and other exciting events.
Lucky 13 Starlight Cinema opened for another season on Sunday June 14. For the most fun you can have in a parking lot…without a car, join us each Sunday through September 6 for fun, games and movies for all ages.
Friday June 26 “Dance in the Park After Dark” will be held in Basin Spring Park downtown. Twice a month, stay out after the sun goes down for music and dancing. Cletus Got Shot will provide entertainment on the 26th. This free event is fun for the entire family.
Hungry?? We have great restaurants to please all pallets. For authentic German cuisine, look for the Bavarian Inn. With the Hungarian Plate as an appetizer and the Bavarian Plate as an entrée, get a taste of just about everything. Sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel and Jager Schnitzel are also on the menu. If you’re in the mood for duck, call early in the day to request that dish.
The Grand Tavern, located in the lobby area of the Grand Central Hotel is an excellent choice for fine dining, special occasion and romantic dinners for two. A chocolatini for dessert is highly recommended.
For dinner in, how ‘bout a wood burning oven baked pizza from Forest Hill Restaurant?
Having tried all the specialty pizzas offered, I can’t decide on a favorite. But, the Pizza Mia allows you to select your own toppings. Forest Hill also offers a great salad bar, hot buffet and menu service. This is a good place to take the kids, too.
Consider Eureka Springs for your getaway this month. With events and activities for the entire family, it’s a great vacation destination.
Start planning that home away from home at www.eurekasprings.com/lodging. Visit the “ask a local” or “Front Porch” for answers to all your questions from those that have been here and those that live here. Two great resources to help plan your trip.
See you soon!!
