MAY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS!
May is an exciting time in Eureka Springs. This little burg, enveloped by the Ozark Mountains comes alive with the celebration of art in all forms.
If you’ve been thinking about a trip to Northwest Arkansas, now is the time. Due to the torrential rains we experienced last weekend, the opening festivities of May Festival of the Arts have been moved to the upcoming weekend.
It all begins on Friday May 8 with the art of cooking with Karen Gros. Sit in on a demonstration class on Friday or put on your aprons and join in the hands-on class on Saturday. Just go to the calendar click on “Cooking Class” for registration and other details.
Join us in the Auditorium Friday night for a concert by Latio artist, Del Castello. “Brilliance on nylon-string classical guitar” says Rolling Stone magazine. Call the Auditorium at 479-253-7788 for ticket information, be sure and ask about packages that include Great Passion Play tickets.
Basin Spring Park downtown hosts Art in the Park. From painting to photography and everything in between and beyond, savoir the works of some of the best local and regional artists around. While there, grab a bench and enjoy the free music being played in the band shell beginning at noon.
Start your Saturday at the annual Eureka Springs Garden Club’s plant sale. A little project that has “grown” into a much-anticipated event, buy plants, cuttings, starts and more from the Master Gardens of our area. This event is held in the parking lot at the high school.
At 2:00 on Saturday, it’s back downtown for the ARTragious Parade. You’re in luck if this is your weekend to visit. Originally scheduled for May 1, the parade had to be postponed because of the weather. As with any Eureka Springs parade, you never know what you might see! Designed as the “official” kick off of May Festival of the Arts, this art-themed caravan down Spring Street promises many surprises, creativity and fun for all.
Beginning at 6:00 Saturday evening, the Eureka Springs Gallery Association presents the 2nd Saturday Gallery Stroll. Special exhibits, featured artists and receptions offered by the association members. Just look for the black and purple flags along Spring Street.
Flutist John Two-Hawks presents his annual Mother’s Day concert on Sunday at the Auditorium. All moms are honored with free admission and a carnation. Call the Auditorium for more information.
