			1st Artosphere Everyday FUN May Festival of the Arts-Festival Event PRINT ALL Wednesday May 1st 2013 - PRINT Artosphere Dates: 2013-04-27 to 2013-06-29 Time: Location Walton Arts Center throughout Northwest Arkansas Description Artosphere Celebrating artists, the natural world and sustainable living, Artosphere is a regional performing and visual arts festival taking place in May and June each year. Now in it’s 4th season, the Festival spans two months, and features the acclaimed Artosphere Festival Orchestra under the baton of Corrado Rovaris, the signature Trail Mix Concert Tours, children’s theater, modern dance, visual arts installations and more. Artosphere includes the Trail Mix Concert Tour (May4), the Chapel Music Series (May 6-7 and June 16-17) and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra (June 18-29). Also included in the festival are the following events. Untamed - Visual Arts Exhibition curated by Andrea Packard and featuring Tom Uttech, Peter Paone, Jose Bedia, Keith Carter, Mary Frank and Melissa Miller will be on display in Walton Arts Center’s Joy Pratt Markham Gallery in May & June. Craig Colorusso’s Sun Boxes (May 1-June 20): Sun Boxes are comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels continuously playing a guitar note in each box, which collectively make a Bb chord, creating a serene environment for one to enter and exit at will. Once the piece begins, the notes continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. This installation will be presented throughout Artosphere at the Dinosaur Petting Zoo, Untamed and Spiral Wetland Openings, during War Horse, and throughout various Artosphere Festival Orchestra Performances. Tasha Lewis’s The Herd & The Swarm (April 27 – May 4): Indianapolis based Tasha Lewis uses cyanotype, a process of photography pre-dating the 1900’s that uses sun exposure to develop images onto fabric; cardboard; tape; and old copies of the New York Times to create sculptures. She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. ERTH’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo (May 3-5): ERTH, an Australian puppet theater company showcasing life-sized dinosaur puppets will present shows in the Bentonville Town Square during May’s First Friday (May 3), in Fayetteville’s Wilson Park as the culmination of the Fayetteville Trail Mix tour (May 4), and will be roving at Lake Fayetteville (May 5). During the performances, children will have the opportunity to “feed, water and care for” these prehistoric marvels. Boats (May 7-11): Boats tells the story of two mariners embracing adventure through bizarre circumstances involving a chicken, a deserted island and a sombrero. Performances will be hosted at Walton Arts Center and area schools. Grug, (May 14-18): Grug tells the story of a small, striped haystack-looking being fascinated by the world around him. Performances will be held at Walton Arts Center and area schools. Ken Starbird, ceramic artist, and his wife, Sandy Wythawai Starbird, fabric artist, have become an integral part of the art scene in Eureka Springs. Ken's sculptural pieces are often mistaken for pieces of coral from the depths of the sea. He is a master of texture and design, having both taught and produced ceramic art for almost 60 years. Sandy has been creating fabric "dolls" for almost 30 years. In her own words, "The images speak of that which is hidden behind the mask. They touch the childlike primal part of us which remembers that imagination and magic are closely related." She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. Craig Colorusso’s Sun Boxes (May 1-June 20): Sun Boxes are comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels continuously playing a guitar note in each box, which collectively make a Bb chord, creating a serene environment for one to enter and exit at will. Once the piece begins, the notes continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. This installation will be presented throughout Artosphere at the Dinosaur Petting Zoo, Untamed and Spiral Wetland Openings, during War Horse, and throughout various Artosphere Festival Orchestra Performances. Tasha Lewis’s The Herd & The Swarm (April 27 – May 4): Indianapolis based Tasha Lewis uses cyanotype, a process of photography pre-dating the 1900’s that uses sun exposure to develop images onto fabric; cardboard; tape; and old copies of the New York Times to create sculptures. She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. ERTH’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo (May 3-5): ERTH, an Australian puppet theater company showcasing life-sized dinosaur puppets will present shows in the Bentonville Town Square during May’s First Friday (May 3), in Fayetteville’s Wilson Park as the culmination of the Fayetteville Trail Mix tour (May 4), and will be roving at Lake Fayetteville (May 5). During the performances, children will have the opportunity to “feed, water and care for” these prehistoric marvels. Boats (May 7-11): Boats tells the story of two mariners embracing adventure through bizarre circumstances involving a chicken, a deserted island and a sombrero. Ken Starbird, ceramic artist, and his wife, Sandy Wythawai Starbird, fabric artist, have become an integral part of the art scene in Eureka Springs. Ken's sculptural pieces are often mistaken for pieces of coral from the depths of the sea. He is a master of texture and design, having both taught and produced ceramic art for almost 60 years. She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. ERTH’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo (May 3-5): ERTH, an Australian puppet theater company showcasing life-sized dinosaur puppets will present shows in the Bentonville Town Square during May’s First Friday (May 3), in Fayetteville’s Wilson Park as the culmination of the Fayetteville Trail Mix tour (May 4), and will be roving at Lake Fayetteville (May 5). Ken's sculptural pieces are often mistaken for pieces of coral from the depths of the sea. He is a master of texture and design, having both taught and produced ceramic art for almost 60 years. Sandy has been creating fabric "dolls" for almost 30 years. In her own words, "The images speak of that which is hidden behind the mask. Craig Colorusso’s Sun Boxes (May 1-June 20): Sun Boxes are comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels continuously playing a guitar note in each box, which collectively make a Bb chord, creating a serene environment for one to enter and exit at will. Once the piece begins, the notes continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. This installation will be presented throughout Artosphere at the Dinosaur Petting Zoo, Untamed and Spiral Wetland Openings, during War Horse, and throughout various Artosphere Festival Orchestra Performances. Tasha Lewis’s The Herd & The Swarm (April 27 – May 4): Indianapolis based Tasha Lewis uses cyanotype, a process of photography pre-dating the 1900’s that uses sun exposure to develop images onto fabric; cardboard; tape; and old copies of the New York Times to create sculptures. She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. Additional Description	30th Artosphere Digital Photography Workshop ESSA Art Class Everyday FUN May Festival of the Arts-Festival Event PRINT ALL Thursday May 30th 2013 - PRINT Artosphere Dates: 2013-04-27 to 2013-06-29 Time: Location Walton Arts Center throughout Northwest Arkansas Description Artosphere Celebrating artists, the natural world and sustainable living, Artosphere is a regional performing and visual arts festival taking place in May and June each year. Now in it’s 4th season, the Festival spans two months, and features the acclaimed Artosphere Festival Orchestra under the baton of Corrado Rovaris, the signature Trail Mix Concert Tours, children’s theater, modern dance, visual arts installations and more. Artosphere includes the Trail Mix Concert Tour (May4), the Chapel Music Series (May 6-7 and June 16-17) and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra (June 18-29). Untamed - Visual Arts Exhibition curated by Andrea Packard and featuring Tom Uttech, Peter Paone, Jose Bedia, Keith Carter, Mary Frank and Melissa Miller will be on display in Walton Arts Center’s Joy Pratt Markham Gallery in May & June. Craig Colorusso’s Sun Boxes (May 1-June 20): Sun Boxes are comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels continuously playing a guitar note in each box, which collectively make a Bb chord, creating a serene environment for one to enter and exit at will. Once the piece begins, the notes continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. This installation will be presented throughout Artosphere at the Dinosaur Petting Zoo, Untamed and Spiral Wetland Openings, during War Horse, and throughout various Artosphere Festival Orchestra Performances. Tasha Lewis’s The Herd & The Swarm (April 27 – May 4): Indianapolis based Tasha Lewis uses cyanotype, a process of photography pre-dating the 1900’s that uses sun exposure to develop images onto fabric; cardboard; tape; and old copies of the New York Times to create sculptures. She will create a swarm of butterflies to install on metal fences, walls, etc. in public places around Northwest Arkansas for First Thursday Fayetteville, First Friday Bentonville, and during Trail Mix. In addition, she will hand-sew the cloth prints to the sculptures to create a herd of African animals that appear to be stampeding through a wall at WAC. ERTH’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo (May 3-5): ERTH, an Australian puppet theater company showcasing life-sized dinosaur puppets will present shows in the Bentonville Town Square during May’s First Friday (May 3), in Fayetteville’s Wilson Park as the culmination of the Fayetteville Trail Mix tour (May 4), and will be roving at Lake Fayetteville (May 5). During the performances, children will have the opportunity to “feed, water and care for” these prehistoric marvels. Boats (May 7-11): Boats tells the story of two mariners embracing adventure through bizarre circumstances involving a chicken, a deserted island and a sombrero. Performances will be hosted at Walton Arts Center and area schools. Grug, (May 14-18): Grug tells the story of a small, striped haystack-looking being fascinated by the world around him.
